Default FOWsc I don't get it

I know I must be missing something since its very popular but I don't understand why people do this run.
The end chest is poor and apart from a few obby shards while doing the run what else is there to gain from doing this?

cheers

Carl

Some people find it fun to do, while others just have that feeling they're gonna get something good and do it until they do.

I do it when I'm bored.

It's the easiest and most easily puggable elite area. That's why lots of player do the zone.

It is fun and easy and you can make some money at it. I have also gotten Ecto to drop from the spirits during the Wailing Lord quest so shards are not the only thing to drop.

Its a good practice area for spead clearing before UW and DOA, also no stones requirement.

It's quick, easily doable, gives fair profit for the time (obby shards are profitable), and there's always the rare chance for an Obby Blade.

You do however have a point in that I wish they'd update it like they did the UW with a new twist. The UW was changed and changed for SF farming, (and in the end it's still the SC of choice, epic fail), but I actually find the adddition of Dhuum kinda cool. Yeah, he's a pain to defeat; but I appreciate updates like that.

You have to go out of your way to fail in FoW. You can aggro half the burning forest in NM and not lose a single person.

I don't even know why they have a set SC the way they do, they could just have one of the 8 people be a porogon and you'd still roll the thing.

It's also the one of the fastest (and most profitable) ways to get Legendary Survivor.

Yep, most of the posters above me got it, it's fun. Playing 100b in FoWSC is easy, relaxing and you can normally get chatting with the people. The shards are a nice bonus and after 100s of runs i've never had anything valuable from the end chest but I don't care at all.

Plus seeing how fast you can do it with a PUG is cool. Beat my record 2 runs in a row last week with an awesome PUG.

Some for money, others for fun. And the guy who posted the obby edge link could've also posted links to Voltaic Spears, rare shields and other valuable crap.

ya, i've done lots of fowsc.
If you like it you like it, if you don't you don't. I don't think many people farm it for the gold because it's not generally as good as other farms. I think even feather farms prolly pay better in the long run.

But I find it fun, whole guilds devote themselves to it so it's actually very popular among the player base. And as far as sc's go, it involves a lot of professions. And one more thing, I like the whole pug experience in that it's like a box of chocolates ;P
And this is the most forgiving pug sc experience in the game (at least as far as actually being able to get a group together, because yes some dungeons are much more forgiving i.e. res shrines) and this together makes it more enjoyable to pug than uw with the "show stone" nimrods and much more enjoyable than doa (which you need a sc guild/alli to do efficiently) and I'll add in deep/urgoz/most dungeons too as you need guilds to do them.

anyway -wall of text done- if you don't like it find something you do like.
asking why people like stuff is a ridiculous question as it's all subjective.

If people did it for the fun they would be pugging it instead of running some lame ass speed clear crap. Where's the fun in repeating a streamlined process over and over? Get a job at an assembly line rather.

i do it because its fun, easy, pretty quick, the feeling when none of the Ts fail is just amazing , and also even though i've never gotten anything good from the chest (apart from a r12 death cc a year ago), running from the last wolf to the chest is just awesome because the unknown awaits you! and there is a pretty good monetary gain from doing it which is always cool

Suppose that:

SKILL = APTITUDE X EFFORT X TIME

FoW is the elite area requiring the least skill. The players that are down there for hours on end each day are probably deficient in at least one of those areas (and it obviously isn't time).

As others have pointed out, that isn't the only reason that people go down there. It's less stressful than some of the other elite areas, so people will go down there for a break, for the lulz, or to play with less skilled friends that can't hack areas with better returns on time invested.
